These dreams are up in smoke…

If you haven’t already seen the Seattle Times front page news of the Street of Dreams homes being torched, then you can access it here.  The likely suspects, as reported by the Times, is Earth Liberation Front since it seems that the letters “ELF” were spray painted on or nearby the homes that were burned.

What is a bit pathetic about this news is that this past year’s construction was highlighting the use of more environmentally friendly materials, high efficiency materials and construction, as well as recycled materials.  They were starting to try and take into the mainstream these concepts that could “sort of” take a 4,000+ square foot home and reduce its environmental impact.  Granted, you can’t take all of the impact away but you can certainly mitigate it and/or modify items.

What ELF also misses every time they do one of these arsons, or whoever did it for that matter even if it wasn’t ELF, is that they’ll likely rebuild and that will take double the material from what it was to build the project the first time around.  Just plain dumb if you ask me.
