I’ve written about the impending side sewer inspection requirement in Tacoma for several months now and it seemed to be getting pushed and pushed for implementation. Now, we have word that the requirement has been squashed. Read below for the announcement we received via the local NWMLS about the changes:
City of Tacoma ~ Side Sewer Update ~ Effective December 1, 2010
On November 16th, the Tacoma City Council voted to eliminate the requirement for mandatory inspections for side sewers at the time of sale. Instead of a mandatory inspection, Tacoma Municipal Code Section 12.08.720 requires real estate professionals to provide the buyer and seller with an “educational flyer” prior to the sale or transfer of title for real property in the City of Tacoma that contains any building or structure with a private side sewer connecting to the public sewer main. The flyer is a document that provides educational information to property owners regarding the condition of side sewers and private ownership and maintenance responsibilities. The educational flyer and additional information about the requirement are available on the City of Tacoma’s website or by calling the City at (253) 591-5588.
