Tips for hiring a home inspector for your real estate purchase in Washington State

Here are some tips from our very own Reba Haas regarding hiring a home inspector. Not all licensees are created equal!

Home inspections are one of the most important elements of the home buying process. Making sure you have the “gold standard” of home inspectors is critical. Many people are unaware that it was only in 2009 that WA State required standardized education for home inspectors and licensing began in 2010. Before then it was a grab bag of experience.

We recommend you work with someone who has the WA State license for home inspection, but who also carries a pest inspection license (through the Dept of Agriculture) and who has Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance coverage. Going even above and beyond the general inspection, we at Team Reba also recommend sewer scope inspections to know what’s in the ground of your purchase and to prevent nasty surprises post closing.
