Several new buildings are under construction in the downtown core of Wichita. According to my mom and fellow real estate agent, Myrna Haas, the Arena is already funded so it should likely be completed in the next 1-2 years. A lot of the above grade framing is going up right now so it’s well on its way. There is a whole development plan for the neighborhoods around it.
Last year I purchased a 4-plex in town about a mile or less from Old Town. When I go back for my now regular visits I try to make sure and cruise through part of the areas that are designated in the revitalization plan for the downtown core of Wichita. I saw about 3 other sites that were either tearing down old buildings, or they’d already been cleared and the sites were being prepped for new construction. Along with these there were several other projects that were getting closer to completion. This is the largest amount of construction activity that Wichita has seen since the redevelopment efforts of Old Town which is about 10 or so years old. A lot of this redevelopment is coming from Minnesota, again from info I’ve gleaned from Myrna.
Other new construction projects are out near Wesley Hospital where new multi-family condo housing is going in and other new construction projects for small commercial facilities.
Stay tuned over the next many months and years as we’ll be continuing to bring information to you about the redevelopment projects and other information about things to do and local businesses of Wichita on this blog.
